Privacy policy

Last updated 1 October 2026

ChinaLocal (chinalocal.app) is operated by 深圳市问远有声创意文化有限公司 (Shenzhen, China). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can to run the service.

Help cards stay on your device. Medicine, blood type, allergy and diet details entered there are not sent to our server or AI.

What we collect

  • Session cookie (necessary). One cookie keeps you signed in and helps limit automated requests. It lasts up to 30 days.
  • Email address (only if you sign in). Used to send your 6-digit sign-in code and to keep any Trip Pass or Ask credits with your account. We do not send marketing email.
  • Questions you ask Ask ChinaLocal. Sent to our AI provider to generate an answer. We do not store the text of your conversations in our database.
  • Location (only when you tap a “near me” button). Your browser asks for permission first. The coordinates are used once to find nearby places and are not stored.
  • Optional usage analysis (off unless you allow it). Pages, clicks and time on page, linked to a random browser session identity — no chat text, addresses or advertising trackers. Kept for 90 days. You can switch it on or off under “Privacy & usage”.
  • Things you send us. Feedback, survey answers, hotel “is this still accurate?” flags and local-help requests (including the contact email you give for that request).
  • Short-link counts. When you arrive through one of our short links (for example from a video), we count the click per day and channel. The count contains no personal data and uses no cookie.

Who processes it

  • Tencent Cloud (Guangzhou, China) hosts the website and our database.
  • Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (Qwen, Beijing, China) generates AI answers from the questions you send.
  • AMap / 高德地图 (China) returns nearby places for the place name or coordinates in your request.
  • Resend (United States) delivers sign-in code emails to your address.
  • PayPal handles any payment on its own pages; we never see your card details. We keep an order reference, product and amount.
  • Trip.com receives you only if you choose to follow a booking link; bookings happen on Trip.com under its own policy. We may earn a commission.

This means your data is stored and processed in mainland China, and your email address is also processed in the United States for email delivery.

How long we keep it

  • Account email: until you delete your account.
  • Sign-in codes: 10 minutes. Sessions: up to 30 days.
  • Usage analysis: 90 days. Conversation text and location: not stored.
  • Feedback, hotel flags and local-help requests: until they are no longer needed or you delete your account.
  • Payment order references (without your email): as long as required for accounting and refunds.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete your account at any time on your account page. This removes your email, sessions, feedback, local-help requests, hotel flags, usage analysis and any passes or credits on the account.
  • Turn optional usage analysis on or off under “Privacy & usage”.
  • For access or correction requests, or any question about this policy, email 272691850@qq.com or use the feedback form. We reply within 15 working days.

Purchases are covered by our terms and refund policy.

Children

ChinaLocal is intended for adult travellers and is not directed at children under 14.
